James 5 is AWESOME!!!
Verse 8 spoke to me today about "establishing my heart." How much time do I spend thinking about how God is working in my life and in those around me versus the time I spend thinking about other things that are not quite as important? Even good things like rock climbing, music, etc...

13 Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance,
15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,
16 since it is written, "You shall be holy, for I am holy."

God, prepare my mind by your Word for what I will face today... Help me to not conform to the passions and desires of who I used to be, but help me to strive to be obedient to you!

The only way that I can even begin to live my life in the right way is too trust in the power that He provides by His spirit!

1 Peter 1:3-10
3 His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence,
4 by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.
5 For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge,
6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness,
7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.
8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.
10 Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to make your calling and election sure, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall.

2 Peter 2:14 is crazy true about our world today
"They have eyes full of adultery, insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts trained in greed."

That basically sums up our world's appetite for pleasure... pornography, materialism, physical relationships...

I pray that my heart is not trained in greed, but trained in the righteousness that God has planned for my life!

5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

It's ridiculous to claim that I have no sin... But many times I live my life in a way that hides my sins, when all I need to do is confess my sins, and he is faithful and just to forgive me!

God, help me to run to you when I sin... Help me to not push myself away from you when I sin, help me not to try to hide my sin!

I John 1:6

If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth.

We are who we want to be. If we want to be a Christian, we walk like a Christian. It doesn't mean we are perfect, but it means we don't live putting ourselves in the wrong places where we are probably going to fail.

Proverbs 28:23-24

Whoever robs their father or mother and says, “It’s not wrong,” is partner to one who destroys.

We all sin, but those who defend the sins and constantly rationalize why they aren't wrong are far from heading in the right direction. I think we all do this sometimes and it convicts me to guage what direction I am in. I have, as of late, not been as faithful in my devotions and have made a concerted effort to get back in my devotions full time as I should be. It makes an instantaneous difference in my life. Great devotional today.

Thanks Brandon for sharing this with us.

Beloved, do not imitate evil but imitate good. Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not seen God.
3 John 1:11

I am challenged by this verse to look at my life and my desires and take a look at which parts look more like the world vs looking like Jesus' character ...

My Bible has situations that we ALL can relate to, and I thought this is one we all have trouble with, mostly if you go to school.

Best Freinds?

Mandy had church friends and school friends. She was close to her church friends because they were all Christians and wanted to live the right way. But most of those kidswent to other schools, and Mandy only saw them on Sundays. Mandy's school friendswere fun. and they liked her. The problem was that these friends weren't Christians. They saiud and did some things that Mandydidnt agree with.
What should your CLOSEST friends be like? Judges 3:5-7 tells what happened when the Isralites let nonbelieving friends influence them.

This situation shows that you shouldnt hang out with the wrong people, expesally if you notice you are starting to do things you wouldnt normally do, BUT if you really care about them why not take them to church, see how they like it and hopefully they will start following the Lord.

This has been Molly C. and a question for you to think about while readingthe word
